Baltimore Sterling Silver REPOUSSE 8" Footed Tray, c. 1900, 310 grams

This listing is for a lovely Sterling Silver footed tray in the gorgeous REPOUSSE pattern, c. 1900
.
This nice tray is decorated with a highly hand chased raised floral border in high relief with assorted flowers and foliage. The flat center area is decorated with an all-over engraved square pattern with fancy leaf garland surrounding a central cartouche with fancy 3-letter engraved monogram “E B T”. The tray sits on four claw and ball feet and has great original patina. Marked “James R. Arminger Co., Sterling”. James R. Arminger was a Baltimore MD silversmith from 1866-1896. Upon his death in 1896, the company incorporated and added “Co.” to their name and continued in business until 1970.
Measures 1 1/8″ high and 8 1/8″ in diameter. Weighs 310 grams.
This nice tray is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minimal signs of normal wear.
Variations of the iconic Repousse pattern was very popular with the numerous Baltimore silversmiths in the late 19th Century and has never lost its desirability by sterling silver lovers. S. Kirk & Son produced their own version of the Repousse pattern which made its debut in 1828 making it the oldest Sterling Silver pattern produced in the United States. To this day, it has remained one of the most popular patterns ever created.
